Frisco, Texas – August 9, 2025 – Yesterday, the Denton-Lewisville (TX) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. came together for its highly anticipated Annual Retreat, held at the Torii & Katrina Event Center in Frisco, Texas. The day was filled with reflection, strategy, and a renewed commitment to the chapter’s mission of Brotherhood First and the fraternity’s enduring motto, Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.
Guided by Purpose: Vice Polemarch Marcus "MD" Taylor Leads the Day

The retreat’s Master of Ceremony and lead trainer, Vice Polemarch Marcus “MD” Taylor, set the tone by introducing the Three Pillars that will guide the chapter’s work under the vision of Polemarch Randal V. Hawthorne: Time, Talent, and Treasure.
These pillars, Taylor emphasized, are more than just concepts—they are action points that, when aligned with the chapter’s mission, become powerful tools for advancing the chapter’s impact. The day’s central theme challenged members to align these pillars with their personal contributions, fostering a stronger sense of shared purpose within the fraternity and the community.
Highlight: Zeta Upsilon Chapter Reactivation and Future Plans

One of the retreat’s significant moments was the introduction of the summary plan for the newly reactivated Zeta Upsilon Chapter at the University of North Texas. Presented by chapter advisor and past Polemarch Sheldon Smith—who also serves as the Southwestern Province Cluster Secretary—the update outlined the chapter’s commitment as the sponsoring alumni chapter.
Brother Smith’s presentation detailed future goals, leadership development initiatives, and mentorship structures to ensure the continuity, growth, and success of Zeta Upsilon’s undergraduate members. The initiative represents a standard-setting approach to chapter advisement, blending accountability with mentorship to shape future fraternity leaders.
Reflective Training Over Rigid Instruction

Unlike traditional training sessions, this retreat was designed for interactive engagement rather than top-down instruction. Brothers participated in breakout sessions and collective introspection, discussing:
- What we can do now to strengthen brotherhood.
- What we could do if we leveraged our collective resources.
- What we have not done—but must do—to uphold our standards of excellence.
Through candid conversations, the chapter explored how to become mission-driven, community-focused, and socially impactful, while building stronger bonds among members.
Fellowship Across Cities and States

The retreat attracted brothers from Chicago, Illinois; Austin and Houston, Texas; and Oklahoma, underscoring the reach and unity of Kappa men nationwide.
The day concluded with lunch and fellowship before transitioning to Sidecar Social in The Star District in Frisco, where members continued conversations in a relaxed setting, reinforcing the bonds built during the training.
Commitment to Legacy and Excellence
This year’s retreat was not just a meeting—it was a strategic gathering to set the course for the year ahead. Through reflective discussions, vision alignment, and cross-generational fellowship, the Denton-Lewisville (TX) Alumni Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to:
- Strengthening internal bonds of brotherhood.
- Elevating community involvement and impact.
- Ensuring the success of undergraduate brothers through structured mentorship.
- Living the fraternity’s motto in every endeavor.
