The 2026 Southwestern Province Kappa League Conference, hosted by the New Orleans Alumni Chapter, marked a historic moment for the program.
This year’s conference set a new attendance record with more than 410 participants, including Kappa League members and their chaperones from across the Southwestern Province. The milestone represents the continued growth of the Guide Right initiative and the expanding interest in youth leadership development.
Even more notable, this achievement follows another record set just one year ago. The program has now broken its attendance record two consecutive years, demonstrating the strength and momentum of the Kappa League across the province.
Held on the historic campus of Dillard University, an HBCU located in the heart of New Orleans, the conference brought together young men committed to excellence, leadership, scholarship, and community impact.
A Campus Filled with History and Energy
The campus of Dillard University felt alive the moment everyone arrived.
Beautiful white buildings stood proudly across the grounds. Lush green grass stretched between walkways shaded by towering trees. Every corner seemed to carry stories from generations of scholars, leaders, and pioneers who had walked those same paths before. The environment reflected the legacy of an institution that has long served as a pillar of academic excellence and cultural pride.
The conference officially opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Monique Guillory, who greeted the Kappa League members and chaperones gathered inside the auditorium. Dr. Guillory welcomed the young men to campus and spoke about the importance of education, leadership, and preparing for the opportunities that lie ahead.
Her remarks set the tone for the entire conference. The young men listened attentively, energized by the experience and eager to participate in the activities planned throughout the event.
Soon after, the campus buzzed with activity. Kappa League members moved between breakout sessions, leadership discussions, and campus tours while continuing conversations over meals, pizza, and moments of fellowship that strengthened the bonds between chapters.
The atmosphere reflected what the Kappa League experience is meant to cultivate: growth, brotherhood, leadership, and opportunity.
Denton–Lewisville Representation
The Denton–Lewisville Kappa League arrived unified and prepared.
The chapter was represented by:
15Kappa League members
5 dedicated chaperones
Throughout the conference, the young men participated in multiple events and activities including:
Basketball breakout sessions
Leadership and bonding activities
Campus tours of Dillard University
Networking with other Kappa League chapters
The Kappa League Member of the Year competition
The experience provided opportunities for both personal growth and chapter pride as the young men represented Denton–Lewisville with excellence.
Carter Jackson: From Sixth Place to First

One of the most memorable moments of the conference came when Denton–Lewisville’s own Carter Jackson was named Southwestern Province Kappa League Member of the Year 11/12 Division.
The victory carried a powerful story.
The previous year, Carter finished sixth out of six finalists in the same competition. Rather than becoming discouraged, he returned determined and prepared to improve.
Earlier in the conference, Carter stood before a distinguished panel of judges during the formal interview portion of the competition. The judges reviewed his complete portfolio which included:
Academic transcripts
Essays and written reflections
Leadership activities
Video submissions
Community service accomplishments
The competition concluded with a spoken word presentation during the awards program.
Carter delivered a compelling performance that used basketball as an allegory for life, weaving together themes of perseverance, social justice, teamwork, discipline, achievement, and personal growth. His words resonated deeply with the audience and fellow Kappa League members.
The competition itself was intense. Among the finalists were young men who had:
Performed violin at Carnegie Hall
Delivered sermons as young pastors
Demonstrated exceptional musical talent on saxophone
Presented outstanding artistic and academic achievements
Yet Carter’s story of resilience and growth captured the moment. His message connected with the audience and judges alike, earning him the province’s top honor.
His journey from sixth place to first place became one of the most inspiring narratives of the conference.
Recognition for Jordyn Williams
Senior Kappa League member Jordyn Williams also received significant recognition during the conference.
Kevin Burnett, National Guide Right Chairman, and Samuel Odom personally acknowledged Jordyn for:
His business resilience
His professionalism and leadership presence
His thoughtful conversations addressing mental health
Their comments reflected genuine respect for Jordyn’s maturity and leadership development as he prepares for the next stage of his academic and professional future.
Frisco Alumni Chapter Earns Large Chapter of the Year

The Dallas–Fort Worth area also had another reason to celebrate during the conference.
The Frisco Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi returned home with one of the conference’s most respected honors, the Jay Crosby Large Chapter of the Year Award.
For many attendees, the recognition carried special meaning because of how quickly the chapter has made its mark. The Frisco Alumni Chapter has existed for only three years, yet it has already established itself as a strong presence within the Southwestern Province.
Through consistent programming, mentorship, and community engagement, the chapter has rapidly become a driving force for youth development in the region. Their work through the Guide Right Program and Kappa League has helped cultivate leadership, academic focus, and character development among young men in the Frisco community.
The award reflects not only the chapter’s growth, but also the dedication of its members who have committed themselves to building a program that develops future leaders.
As a relatively young chapter, Frisco’s recognition signals something important for the broader Dallas–Fort Worth area: a new and rising presence within the province that is strengthening the impact of Kappa League and the Guide Right initiative.
With only a few years under its belt, the Frisco Alumni Chapter is already demonstrating that intentional mentorship and strong leadership can produce remarkable results
Undefeated on the Court
The Denton–Lewisville Kappa League also performed strongly in athletic competition.
During intramural basketball play, the team finished 3–0, demonstrating teamwork, preparation, and competitive discipline.
Their success during conference play now builds momentum as they prepare for the official basketball tournament scheduled later this spring.
A Unified Presence That Turned Heads

Another highlight of the weekend was the chapter’s coordinated presentation and style.
The Denton–Lewisville Kappa League debuted several custom apparel pieces throughout the conference:
Custom arrival hoodies
Newly designed cardigans
Custom sport coats
Coordinated ties and lapel pins
The chapter’s unified appearance drew significant attention. Cameras flashed as other chapters asked to take photos with them and complimented their polished presentation.
Every time the Denton–Lewisville group stepped out together, they did so as one unified team.
Their presence reflected discipline, pride, and the collective identity of young men committed to excellence.
A Conference That Reflects Growth

The 2026 Southwestern Province Kappa League Conference represented far more than a gathering.
It showcased:
record-breaking participation
rising leadership among young men
academic and artistic excellence
mentorship and brotherhood
the continued growth of the Guide Right initiative
With more than 410 participants, inspiring performances, and powerful stories like Carter Jackson’s rise from sixth place to first, the conference demonstrated the impact that structured mentorship and leadership development can have on the next generation.
The young men of Denton–Lewisville represented their chapter, their community, and their future with pride.
And as the conference concluded on the historic campus of Dillard University, one thing was clear:
The future leaders shaped by the Kappa League are already rising.
